Reclaim 2027: A Conference on Trauma, Healing, and Survivor Support
Supporting someone after violence can leave even experienced professionals asking: What should I say? What might I be missing? How can I make this interaction feel safer?
Those questions deserve space—and the opportunity to learn alongside people who bring different experiences and perspectives.
Reclaim 2027, presented by Emerald Coast Victim Services, brings survivors, healthcare professionals, advocates, and community members together for two days of education and connection in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, February 10–11, 2027.
Together, we will explore what comes after the immediate crisis: rebuilding safety, navigating healthcare, strengthening relationships, and creating communities that offer meaningful support.

What Happens After Survival Matters
After the crisis, there is still a life to live.
There may be appointments to navigate, children to care for, work to return to, and decisions that feel anything but simple. The people and systems someone encounters along the way can shape whether support feels accessible, respectful, and useful.
Reclaim asks us to consider our part in that experience.
How do we preserve choice in healthcare? How do we respond when someone shares what happened to them? What barriers are we overlooking? What does support look like beyond a referral?
These questions connect healthcare, advocacy, education, law enforcement, workplaces, and the wider community. Bringing those perspectives into the same room gives us an opportunity to strengthen how we respond.
Learning You Can Bring Into Your Work and Community
Reclaim 2027 connects professional knowledge with lived experience through conversations about violence, trauma, health, and healing.
Our conference sessions will explore:
- Choice and safety in healthcare: Recognizing opportunities to support dignity, communication, and control during care.
- The effects of violence on health: Expanding our understanding of how trauma can influence someone’s experience in their body and daily life.
- Responses to domestic and sexual violence: Examining barriers, assumptions, and practices that can create additional harm.
- Relationships and rebuilding: Considering the roles of connection, parenting, rest, safety, and independence.
- Safer organizations and communities: Exploring how everyday decisions and organizational practices affect the people seeking support.
You will have opportunities to examine your own approach, connect with people across disciplines, and identify ideas to carry into your practice, organization, or community.

Who Should Attend?
Reclaim welcomes nurses, nurse practitioners, other healthcare professionals, victim advocates, mental health professionals, law enforcement, legal professionals, educators, nonprofit leaders, and community partners.
Survivors, loved ones, students, and community members are welcome, too.
You do not need clinical experience to participate, and sharing a personal experience is never a requirement for belonging in the room.
Whether you support survivors professionally or want to better understand your role as a friend, colleague, leader, or neighbor, this conversation includes you.
Why Emerald Coast Victim Services Hosts This Conference
Emerald Coast Victim Services is a nurse-led nonprofit working to reduce the health effects of violence and trauma through education, advocacy, community partnerships, and improved access to survivor-centered care and support.
We believe where someone experiences violence should never determine whether they can access knowledgeable, compassionate support.
Reclaim is part of that work: creating opportunities for people to learn together, build relationships, and consider what better support can look like across our communities.
